our STORY

Our

STORY

In 1982,  our founder and owner Mike Amato started working at Joe's Deli in South Philly. By age 18, he had bought the deli, bringing several members of his family into the business with him. The success of that first deli would eventually lead to eight locations across South Philly, and a flourishing food distribution business.

Since

1987

After selling off his other businesses, Mike moved his family to South Jersey and bought the store that became Amato Bros. His brother Jim joined him soon after, and the deli quickly became a staple of the community.

In January 2016, a fire completely destroyed the deli and rendered it inoperable. Mike and Jim opened a temporary location in Glendora while they rebuilt the Oaklyn location.

After a two-year absence, Amato Bros. re-opened in April 2018 to much fanfare. Back was the beloved deli customers had come to love, complete with a beautiful new dining room and bar.

Just a few months after the relaunch, Mike tragically lost his brother Jim. Jim's kindness, leadership, and humor is still fondly remembered by the staff to this day.
